Blog Comment Optimization for HIgher Google Pagerank

Commenting on other blogs is the most powerful link building tool for bloggers. It would help you get precious backlinks and over a period of time increase your blog's google pagerank and technorati blog rank. It can also help in getting a trickle of traffic which may eventually become a stream, provided you are consistent in commenting on other blogs.

However, all blogs are not equal and a backlink from a higher ranked no-follow blog would be worth less than one from a lower ranked do-follow blog. I like chaos and have been pretty random in choosing blogs to comment on. Here are some of my observations which may help you optimize your comments on other blogs and get a higher google pagerank and technorati blog rank.

1. Be consistent in comment frequency : I'd say 5 comments on other blogs for each post you publish is a sustainable figure. If you have plenty of time or don't feel like posting, you can certainly utilize that time to comment on more blogs. Visiting new blogs is also helpful in giving ideas for posts and lerning about new templates, plugins, widgets, etc. However, try and be consistent, if not daily then on a weekly basis. A sudden spurt in your backlink count may be considered spam by search engines. Any increase in link building should be gradual and sustained.

2. Don't Leave Hyperlinks In Your Comments : Incase you have just published a great post you may be tempted to insert the hyperlink for the blog post in your comment. It's irritating and usually your comment would be deleted. In such a scenario it would be better to leave comments on blogs which have installed the comment luv plugin.

3. Do-Follow, No-Follow, Top Commentators, Comment Luv, Keyowrd Luv : Which Blog to Comment On : Lot's of bloggers provide incentive to comment by making their blog do-follow and installing plugins like top commentators, commentluv and keyword luv.

Older, stable links are more valuable so my suggestion would be ... go slow on blogs which have the Top Commentators plugin. The scores are reset every week/month and the links temporary. Bloggers keep changing the status of their blog, do-follow/no-follow and these widgets take a few minutes to install and uninstall so be prepared for surprises.

4. Comment on Blogs in the Same Niche : Blogs on SEO suggest that backlinks from blogs, websites on the subject/niche related to your blog are more valuable. It can be a bit bothersome for an individual like me who is interested in a few dozen things.

You can use a link builder tool to suggest blogs/websites which are related to the keywords you target. I don't bother about keywords and don't use this tool.

5. Don't Comment on Blogs Which Require Login/ Wonlt Let You Leave Your Blog's URL : I find it a waste of time to create a user ID just to leave a comment ona blog. What's more, once you create the ID you may learn that you arn't allowed to leave your blog's URL. We want to use our blog comment time optimally and remembering another ID and password won't help us do that.

6. Disable Comments on Old Posts on Your Blog : Whether Pagreank leaks or not is a debatable topic, Google Recommends To Not Control Outbound PageRank Leak, Pagerank Leakbut I've observed that many professional bloggers have disabled comments on their old posts.

I find it disturbing but incase you are serious SEO and Google Pagerank I would suggest you disable comments on old posts. I have disabled comments on posts made in the first two months and plan to disable comments on posts made till December 2008 as soon as I find a few hours of doing nothing better. Will Mayawati Be The Next Indian Prime Minister

Mayawati is the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state. Uttar Pradesh accounts for 80 of the 543 seats of Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian Parliament.

Among regional leaders, Mayawati and Sharad Pawar have been most vocal in their claim to be the next Prime Minister of India.

Mayawati and Bahujan Samaj Party's influence is limited to Uttar Pradesh and some pockets of neighbouring states though she is trying hard to project BSP as a national party. Years ago I attended a rally addressed by Kanshi Ram, the founder of BSP and Mayawati. I was impressed by their oratorial skills. She is trying her best to present BSP as a viable non-Congress, non-BJP alternative at the centre.

Caste and caste based hierarchy exists in 21st century India and political parties have mastered the art of exploiting these divisions. Mayawati is a shrewd politican and during the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh made a successful attempt to reach out to sections outside her traditional vote bank. During these Lok Sabha elections she has been pretty kind in allocating tickets to candidates who have deserted her rivals in Uttar Pradesh. These are realities of ground politics in India.

What troubles me is that like most other regional parties BSP hasn't groomed the second rung of leadership. I don't see any entity, be it political, economic or military, succeeding without a well distributed power structure. Bahujan Samaj Party may claim to be the front runner in their determination to uplift the Dalits but the internal organisation of the party is very undemocratic and uninspiring.

So what are the chances of Mayawati becoming the next Prime Minister of India.


In the 2004 general elections BSP contesed 435 seats in the country and won 19. My hunch is that if both, the Congress and the BJP fall short of the 150 mark (minus allies) and the BSP crosses the 50 seats then Mayawati would have a very good shot at the Prime Ministerial post.

The good thing about BSP is that it has partnered with the Congress and the BJP, the two big national players and rather than the third front, I see either the Congress or the BJP supporting her to prevent the other from coming to power. Communists too don't have any oblection to her being the PM candidate of the 3rd front. But the third front for all practical purposes would come into existence, if it does, after the elections are over. There has been no formal seat sharing agreement. What's interesting is that many partners of Congress (UPA) and BJP (NDA) have decided to ditch the national parties.

I really wanted to take a look at the various pre-poll predictions on the structure of the next Lok Sabha but feeling lazy these days.

Get Google Pagerank 5 in 90 Days

My blog's pagerank jumped from 3 to 4 in the latest pagerank update by Google. I'm pretty satisfied with the raise and am aiming for a pagerank of 7 by the end of 2009. That translates to a rise of 1 in each pagerank update for the remaining 3 updates for this year.

Pagerank 10 is reserved for Google and the US government sites. Pagerank 9 and 8 are the bastion of megasites like Yahoo and BBC. So the highest pagerank a blog written by an individual can aim for is 7.

Herez a look at the comparative figures for December 2008 and March 2009 for this blog.

Posts : 108 ... 169
Visitors : 2700 ... 9700
Yahoo Inlinks : 2770 ... 11016

My aim, till the end of June 2009, would be to add 80 more posts, take the visitor count beyond 25,000 and Yahoo Inlinks past 20,000.

I'll also try and post more on subjects I really really like, rather than blogging and social media. When I initiated this blog, I was pretty sure most of the posts would be on India, Uttarakhand, Anthropology, Geography and History. However blogging and Social Media are very dynamic and chaos attracts me.

I'll be more focussed. I'll also try and make posts more informative and useful. What's your strategy to get a higher pagerank in the next update and what are the things that have worked for you?
