India : Top 10 People of the Decade


These are the top 10 people of the first decade of this century according to Shyamal Majumdar.

Manmohan Singh
For becoming the first Indian Prime Minister, after Jawaharlal Nehru, to have a second consecutive term at the office. He also happens to be the most qualified head of government.

Ratan Tata
For helping the Tata Group acquire 36 global companies for US $ 30 billion. Tata Group's turnover has increased almost 8 times during the decade, to US $ 71.5 billion and 2/3 of it comes from overseas. Another big achievement is Tata Nano.



Lakshmi Niwas Mittal

Mittal Steel is today the biggest steel maker in the world. Mittal Steel now covers 60 countries in 5 continents and controls 10% of the world's steel output. L N Mittal is the eight richest person in the world and second richest in India, with a net worth of US $ 30 billion.


Mukesh Ambani

With a net worth of US $ 32 billion, Mukesh Ambani is the richest Indian. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries. Natural Gas production from his company's Krishna - Godavari basin deep sea block would rise to 550,000 boed in 6 quarters, amounting to 40% of the current production in India. Reliance Industries also owns and operates the world's largest refinery and is in the process of buying out Lyondell - Bassell, it would be India's biggest outbound deal.

Kishore Biyani
Group CEO of Future Group and Founder, Pantaloon Retail, opened the first store of Big Bazaar in Kolkata just 8 years back. Today, he owns 13 million square feet space in over 1,000 stores all over the country. Big Bazaar accounts for 60% of the group's turnover of Rs. 6,400 crore.
