Jhangora

It's been 1 1/2 months since I started the blog but havn't yet introduced jhangora to you.I'm not very systematic in my approach, am I :)

Jhangora is the name of a cereal grown in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It's scientific name is Echinochloa frumentacea & common name in English barnyard millet. We no longer live in our ancestral village so growing up jhangora wasn't a regular part of my diet.Infact I used to hate jhangora bcoz the grain is much smaller than rice & more importantly coarser. As a kid I would refuse to eat it.However my mother prefers jhangora over rice specially during winters coz rice makes her asthma worse.

I spent 3 years in S Korea & during that time missed my mother a lot.I'm the youngest sibling & after the death of my grandparents my mother is the only person with whom I converse in my dialect; Garhwali.I don't like having long conversations over phone so rarely got a chance to speak my dialect.

During my stay in that country I also spent a lot of time on internet & used jhangora as my online name.Something my mother used to like & I dislike a lot.

I'm pretty quick at analyzing things & forming opinions about them however as we mature we realize what we dislike today might not be such a bad thing.Herez a recipe for jhangora ki kheer.
