This is not the first blog I have created.Usually I loose interest in things after some time and then just leave them.Herez a post I made in a forum to start this blog.Let's hope I'm more persistent this time.
Future of Garhwali n Kumaoni Ethnicities
This thread is about the future of Garhwali n Kumaoni ethnicities.I am a Garhwali n have read a few books about history of Garhwal.Through them I learnt that Garhwali people are an amalgamation of a lot of different ethnicities.I guess same holds true for Kumaonis.People from all over India came n seetled in Uttaranchal. They fought or mixed peacefully with original dwellers n gave birth to two largest ethnicities of Uttaranchal. With Uttaranchal being one of the least developed states in India people find it better to move out.Land lies fallow for want of manpower in Uttaranchali villages.Even Garhwalis in Kumaonis who are living in towns within Uttaranchal are losing the dialect, culture, etc. With the formation of Uttaranchal Garhwalis n Kumaonis are coming closer to each other and shedding stereotypes they had for many generations.Would we lose our distinct ethnic identities.Would Kumaonis n Garhwalis merge to form a new ethnic identity. Please stick to the topic.I am aware of the economic scenario in Uttaranchal and each one of us is saddened by it.My question is from a cultural and linguistic viewpoint. The positives n negatives.I am not 100% sure about this matter and would like to know your views.I believe Garhwalis n Kumaonis coming together is good for Uttaranchal as a whole n Uttaranchal merging with the national mainstream is good for India as a whole.Still the thought of losing my distinct cultural entity saddens me.
